The benefits of composting: An alternate perspective on "bed rotting"

You’re not bed rotting, you are fertilizing.

You're exhausted, you're burnt out, your body screaming for rest. There is nothing left - your soil dry and crumbling. All of those negative things you’re told and that you tell yourself make you crawl underground, and it could keep you there forever. If you’re only throwing feelings of guilt and shame into your soil, your body will continue to be drained of nourishment and nothing will be able to grow.

You need that time in bed. You need to crawl back under the comfort of your blankets, settle into the dirt for a while and just rest. You need time to think, plan, plot, fertilize that soil with eggshells and coffee grounds, nourish it with what's good and warm and loving. You need time to plant those seeds firmly in the ground and water them until they take root and begin to sprout.

Believe in yourself. Believe that this rest will heal you.

Believe that when you emerge from your bed, those seeds you planted will have taken hold with roots so deep that you’ll be unstoppable.

Believe you’ll be able to rise out of the dirt stronger than ever.

Believe you’ll bask in the sunlight again and you’ll be ready to get out into the world and make your dreams a reality.

You’re NOT bed rotting.

You just need time to fertilize so that you can emerge from your bed, crawl out from under the dirt and flourish.

*I should note that there is a distinct difference between people who are stuck in their couch or on their bed for months on end because they're clinically depressed and those who need a day or two, or even a week or two, where you just need time to rest. Trust your body, it knows what you need.
